Fear

Imagine for a second,
That the sights and sounds
Of crackers on Diwali
Were not in fact what they seem
But real bombs and bullets and rockets.

Imagine that the empty roads
Didn’t mean that people were home
Celebrating and cheering
But hiding and scared to the core
Worried if they’ll see another day

Imagine if the lights
Lighting up the sky
Weren’t from all the candles and lamps
But of blazing fires
Burning homes, hopes and dreams.

Imagine being there
It would be exactly the same
Except not the same at all.
One nation sleeps with cheer,
Another stays awake in fear.
